Drinking Water Supply
Lynnfield Water District’s mission is to provide continuous, clean, high quality water, in a reliable and cost-effective manner. To this end, we want you to know that the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water. Residents of the District can be assured their drinking water is safe and can be consumed and used as normal. The District obtains all of its water from the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA). Additional information on the water quality from the MWRA and COVID-19 is available on the MWRA website www.mwra.com.

Mitigation Efforts
To mitigate the human spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and well-being of residents and essential employees, the District has implemented several precautionary operational tactics. The District will communicate further changes in operations as they arise.

April 1, 2020 Billing
As part of the efforts to minimize coronavirus spread, the April 1 water usage billing has been postponed indefinitely. A future billing date has not yet been determined.

In-person Services
On a temporary basis, the Lynnfield Water District Office is closed to the public. However, an emergency contact is available at any time. The following changes to non-essential services will be suspended until further notice:

  • In-person payments can only be made by putting payment through the front door mail slot. No cash payments will be accepted. Please include your name, account number, and phone number and put into an envelope. We recommend utilizing our online services to pay any outstanding water bills at www.lwdma.us.
  • Final water readings for home sales will continue via drive-by electronic radio reads.
  • In-home or on-site routine inspections, repairs, and maintenance will be determined on a case by case basis.

Water Emergencies
District staff will continue to respond to any water emergency (water main breaks, etc.) that arise within the distribution system.

Water emergencies on private properties will be addressed on a case-by-case basis in as far as crews are able to address from the outside or by referring the customer to private contractors. LWD staff will not routinely enter residences, buildings, or facilities to make repairs until further notice.

Water District Personnel
Office and maintenance staff are available to answer questions and field inquiries during normal business hours via telephone and email, although the office is closed to the public. Customers may experience possibly longer call response times and should utilize leave a message when possible. Water emergencies will be prioritized.

Public Meetings
On March 10,2020, the Baker-Polito Administration ordered suspending certain provisions of Public Meeting Law G.L. C.30A S.20, enabling public bodies to hold meeting by virtual means allowing real-time access to the activities of the public body, along with authorizing the public body to meet remotely. As such, the Lynnfield Board of Water Commissioners will hold any future meetings during the state of emergency virtually, and will include such details related to participating in the meeting in the meeting posting and on its website.
