Information from our Water Supplier, The Massachusetts Water Resource Authority (MWRA)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued new drinking water standards for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (together abbreviated as PFAS). New PFAS drinking water standards will be effective in April of 2029. As expected, given MWRA’s well-protected watersheds and reservoirs, MWRA already meets the new regulations.

MWRA has tested for all six of the compounds included in the new EPA rule, as required by current state regulations. Results are either not detectable or at trace levels so low they can’t be reliably quantified.

All fully supplied MWRA communities (including Lynnfield Water District) will meet the new EPA standards.

More detailed information on the new standard and MWRA test results is available on the MWRA website at https://www.mwra.com/watertesting/pfas/about.html.
