The District flushes water mains in our distribution system as an important preventative maintenance activity. Peak flushing hours will be between 8 am and 3 pm, Monday through Friday through the months of September and October. Please follow the practices below after hydrant flushing in your area:

  • Check your water prior to doing laundry and delay laundering until any discoloration clears up. Washing a dark load first is recommended after flushing.
  • At times, silt or small sediment can become caught in faucet screens after flushing. If you experience water pressure issues, clean faucet screens and remove sediment that may be obstructing water flow.

We have new automated equipment to assist in our flushing program and to circulate fresher water into the system during the late summer and fall seasons. The new equipment, which is enclosed in a red metal enclosure, attaches to a hydrant, and will open to release a preset amount of water at a scheduled time of the day. Initially, the devices will be set to release water during the middle of the night, one or more nights per week. The automatic flushing devices will be located on several hydrants within the distribution system.

We do not anticipate any inconveniences, however, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the District at 781-598-4223. We appreciate your cooperation in maintaining the water quality within the District.
