History of the Lynnfield Water District

Incorporated 1924

The Lynnfield Water District was created by legislative act in 1924, Chapter 445 of the Acts of the General Court of Massachusetts. In 1956, the LWD entered into an agreement to purchase water from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, acting through its Metropolitan District Commission and to construct, maintain, and operate any water main, pumping facilities, storage tanks and pressure regulating which may be needed to meet local requirements. In 1985, the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority assumed control of the MDC.
